Abstract:
One of the main difficulties of mushroom cultivation in Iran is lack of suitable casing soil, due to unavailability of black peat.
In the reported investigation, three years old spent mushroom compost (SMC) was leached at ratios of 1.4 and 1:8 (SMC/water,v/v). Subsequently, this material was used as a casing soil.
Physical, chemical and microbial analyses, rate of mycelium growth and mushroom production of each sample was carried out using five replications.
Though the leaching of 1:4 and 1:8 (SMC/water, v/v) increased significantly the growth of mycelium and yield compared with that of controls, no significant difference was noticed between different levels of leaching.
