Abstract:
The system was tested in orchards in Michigan during the critical fruit cracking periods in 1994 and 1995. In 1994, ‘Ulster’ and ‘Emperor Francis’ sweet cherry trees were used.
Fruit cracking was much lower for CaCl2 treated trees versus controls during the 1994 season, 11% versus 33%. There was also a cultivar response in 1994, with untreated ‘Ulster’ having greater fruit cracking than any other treatment, 43%, but only 9% cracking for treated ‘Ulster’.
