ISHS Acta Horticulturae 468: III International Cherry Symposium

A MODEL OF THE DYNAMICS OF ANTHESIS IN SWEET CHERRY AND BIOAGRONOMIC SIGNIFICANCE OF ITS PARAMETERS

Authors:   V. Ughini, A. Roversi
Keywords:   anthesis velocity, logistic function, Prunus avium
Abstract:
A model to describe the dynamics of anthesis by a logistic function was recently advanced by us by fitting the percentage of open flowers daily recorded in a sweet cherry orchard.

A more recent and very realistic model is used by imposing to the interpolating curve to reach the maximum value of 100, that is to say the opening of the total flowers. The graphic description of the fitting curves evidences the effects of genotypes and/or years on the flowering dynamics. Simulations obtained varying b and k values pointed out their influence on the interpolating curves. Their bioagronomic significance could explain for k a slope, that is an anthesis velocity and for b the translation of the fitted curve on the time axis, resulting in an earlier or later beginning of flowering.

The possibility to fit flowering data by this model is advantageous when flowering is compared amongst different genotypes and years.
