ISHS Acta Horticulturae 468: III International Cherry Symposium

A NEW PROMISING SOUR CHERRY HYBRID XII/57

Authors:   M. Nikolic, R. Cerovic
Keywords:   Breeding, crosses, fruit characters, pomological properties, resistance
Abstract:
The promising sour cherry hybrid XII/57 was obtained by planned hybridization in 1985, resulting from a cross of sour cherry cultivars 'Cacanski Rubin' x 'Heimanns Konservenweichsel'. It ripens at the beginning of the third decade of June, bearing regular and heavy crops. The tree is moderately vigorous. The fruits are large, averaging 6.5 g in mass, roundish, dark red. The flesh and the juice are ruby red, sweet acid, of pleasant aroma. The fruit stalk is long and separates easily from the fruit. This hybrid is less susceptible to Blumeriella jaapii (Rehm.) v. Arx. than the standard cultivars.
