Abstract:
Summerland has had a sweet cherry breeding program for many years.
A number of the introductions have proven to be useful by growers not only in British Columbia but around the world.
These include: 'Van', 'Summit', 'Lapins', and 'Sweetheart'. Recently, eight selections have been named and introduced.
These introductions cover a range of maturities from about 8 days before 'Van' to about 20 days after.
They include 'Santina' (13S-5–22), 'Celeste' (13S-24–28), 'Cristalina' (2C-61–22), 'Samba' (13S-36–18), 'Sandra Rose' (13S-10–40), 'Sonata' (13N-6–59), 'Skeena' (13S-43–48), and 'Symphony' (13S-25–25). All the introductions are considered to be self-fertile except for 'Cristalina'. Each cultivar is red to dark red in colour when mature and they possess a number of favourable characteristics.
These characteristics will be presented.
