Abstract:
Wild Corn Salad, also named Lamb's Lettuce (Valerianella locusta L. Laterr.) lives mainly in fallow land as well as in cultivated fields in Europe, Western Asia and North Africa.
Its introduction to agriculture dates from the middle of the 17th century.
Corn Salad is considered a minor crop, but in France, home to 75% of world production, this winter salad is an important economic crop. 90% of French production is concentrated in the region of Nantes, situated on the Atlantic coast at the end of the Loire Valley.
Advanced technology is used for the different phases of cultivation (sowing, planting, protection, harvesting) and for the preparation and packaging of Corn Salad.
Thanks to constant technological advances, out-of-season (April to September) production is now obtained, allowing year-round consumption of this salad vegetable.
