Abstract:
Exploration and collection of plant genetic resources has been systematized, and large collections are preserved in gene banks at various places in the world.
In Beijing, the Gene Bank (GB) of the Beijing Vegetable Research Center (BVRC) has more than 10,000 accessions.
The greater the number of accessions maintained in the GB, the more accurate is the management that is required for vegetable genetic resources.
Information necessary to manage resources at GB can be divided into three categories.
The first is passport data, that includes the varietal name, history and related information.
The second is data of the items to be evaluated or characterized, e.g., morphological or agronomic traits.
The third is management data, indicating the amount of seeds, viability and location in the storage facilities and possible distribution.
The GB of the BVRC has recently completed compiling passport data for the vegetable resources that are preserved in it.
The database system program was created with informix SQL (Structure Query Language) and 4GL (Fourth Generation Language) database language under the UNIX operation system.
