Abstract:
This study was carried out to evaluate genetic relationships of potato cultivars and breeding lines being used in breeding program in Korea based on similarity indices generated by DNA markers analysis.
Twenty two potato cultivars and breeding lines could be identified.
Cluster analysis showed that this potato germplasm could be classified into two major groups when they were analyzed by the combined cluster analysis of RFLP using potato genomic genes, two chloroplast DNA probes (psbA, rbcL), and two mitochondrial DNA probes (Coxl, CoxII), and by PCR using two sets of specific primers targeting for chloroplast DNA (16S rRNA and 23S rRNA; rpoC1 and rpoC2). Potato germplasms selected in this study seem to be mixed with the cultivar groups derived from the USA or Japan.
