ISHS Acta Horticulturae 466: II Workshop on Pome Fruit

DEVELOPMENT OF APPLE FRUIT QUALITY WITHIN THE RESISTANCE BREEDING PROGRAM

Author:   C. Fischer
Keywords:   Malus domestica Borkh., disease resistance, scab, mildew
Abstract:
In the Pillnitz apple resistance breeding program a number of desirable cultivars with resistance against economically important diseases were produced. The most important aim is the improvement of fruit quality in new resistant cultivars, combined with resistance to scab (Venturia inaequalis), mildew (Podosphaera leucotricha), fire blight (Erwinia amylovora) and other fungal and bacterial diseases. The cultivars with high fruit quality as ‘Alkmene’, ‘Clivia’, ‘Elstar’, ‘Golden Delicious’, ‘Pinova’, ‘Piros’ and others inherited a high fruit quality and regular yields in their progenies. New multiple resistant Re-cultivars were selected in different crossing populations, e.g. ‘Resi’, ‘Renora’, ‘Releika’, ‘Rebella’, ‘Regia’, ‘Regine’.
