FLAVANOLS AS DEFENCE BARRIERS IN APPLE LEAVES AGAINST THE APPLE SCAB FUNGUS (VENTURIA INAEQUALIS)

Abstract:
Development of the apple scab fungus and concurrent host responses were followed by light microscopy in naturally infected apple leaves.
The studies indicated that the infection of Venturia inaequalis evoked reduction of starch grains, intense cell division and accumulation of flavanols in the palisade cells and flavanol-rich boundary zones surrounding the scab lesions.
