Abstract:
In Romania, Onset of powrery mildew is favoured by frequent cold and humid springs, followed by hot and droughty summers.

A study was performed in 1994 to 1996 to note the time of disease apparition, manifestation and symptomatological description of the natural attack, origin of the inoculum source and its transmission; in addition, data were taken on resistance of more than 650 peach and nectarine cultivars and selections to the fungus Sphaerotheca pannosa.

Due to field resistance they exhibited to powdery mildew attacks, the peach cultivars Congres, Splendid, Springcrest and the nectarine cultivars ARK 107, HNA and Nectared 7 were selected for the breeding programmes.
