Abstract:
Better use of peach germplasm fund has been obtained through its evaluation of morphological, physiological, phenological, genetic and pathological characteristics.
Evaluation and classification more than 650 existing cultivars and selections in the S.C.P.P. Baneasa collection, according to biological traits, help the choice of material for hybridizations, allow a more rapid promotion of valuable cultivars, as well as obtaining knowledge on gene fund present in peach.
The studies were carried out during a 4 -year period (1992–1996) at S.C.P.P. Baneasa on 124 genotypes, taking data on characters such as : flowering date, maturity period, productivity, fruit size, tree vigour, fruiting type, resistance to major diseases.
The data was computerized.
