ISHS Acta Horticulturae 465: IV International Peach Symposium

DORA - A MEDIUM LATE, GOOD QUALITY, PEACH CULTIVAR

Author:   D. Ogasanovic
Keywords:   Prunus persica, breeding, selection
Abstract:
The paper presents a detailed account of the economic, biological and pomological properties of the peach cultivar Dora.

Up to date, three peach cultivars have been developed at the Fruit Research Institute in Cacak (now: ARI “Serbia”, Fruit and Grape Research Centre): Cacak, Julija and Dora. Dora resulted from a cross of Elberta and Springtime. It is distinguished by good vigour, high bearing potential and good hardiness to winter and late spring frosts. Dora has large fruits, of roundish-flattened shape. The skin has yellow ground colour, with carmine red blush over 50–60% of the surface, covered with light pubescence. The stone is medium sized, free. The fruits ripen in the second decade of August.

It is superior to the standard cv Redhaven in that it produces regular yields of good quality fruits, shows more hardiness to late spring frosts and has relative resistance to peach leaf curl.
