Authors:   A. Ivascu, V. Balan

Abstract:
Romania's location in an environment zone favourable to peach growing expansion needs to initiate and develop a programme for creation of new cultivars within this species. Evolution of the peach breeding programme, spread through a period exceeding 40 years, is in continuous change and adaptation to ECC conditions.

Our main breeding objectives are as follows: diseases resistance, resistance to frost and climate accidents, fruit quality, productivity, adaptability to stress factors. Six new peach cultivars were patented in the last 10 years at the Baneasa Research Station : Splendid, Flacara, Superba de Toamna, Congres, Victoria, Triumf.
