Abstract:
The accuracy of an automatic fruit firmness grader with respect to penetrometer measurements was compared to the accuracy of hand graders of kiwifruit in packhouse trials during the 1995 repack season.
In the middle of the season (September) the automatic grader achieved a soft fruit rejection rate of 93% (±5%) at a loss of 8% (±3%) of the firm fruit.
With hand grading 96% (±3%) of the soft fruit were rejected at the same loss of 8% (±6%) of firm fruit.
