ISHS Acta Horticulturae 463: VIII International Symposium on Plant Bioregulation in Fruit Production

CAN REGULATORY MECHANISM IN FRUIT GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT BE ELUCIDATED THROUGH THE STUDY OF ENDOGENOUS HORMONE CONCENTRATIONS?

Author:   Fritz K. Bangerth
Abstract:
The purpose of this presentation is to demonstrate by means of 3 examples, flower induction, fruit set, and correlative abscission of young fruit, the usefulness of hormone analysis for a better understanding of hormonally regulated processes in fruit growth and development. It is shown that, depending on the process under investigation, it is adviseable to determine either the hormone concentration, if a localized regulation like fruit set is investigated, while determining hormone transport seems more promising if “hormonal signals” are considered which regulate correlative events such as flower induction etc.
