Abstract:
The experiment was carried out on “Redhaven” peach trees.
Direfon and the 2-(2-etossietossi)etill-naphtylacetate were applied during stage I of fruit development.
Much more developed fruits (Class A) were separated from less developed fruits (Class B).
Carbohydrate content and ABA level in seeds were very low during the abscission period when competition for nutrients was very strong.
Class A showed significantly higher values in some cases.
In the subsequent period, carbohydrate content and ABA level increased much more in seeds of Class A fruits, while this increment was very restricted in seeds of Class B.
In the period in which abundant natural and induced fruit abscission peaks occurred, the carbohydrate/ABA ratio was high in seeds with low abscission potential; by contrast this ratio was low in seeds with high abscission potential.
This parameter could indicate different histological, trophic and metabolic situations of the two different seed types.
