Abstract:
In the period 1989 – 1992, in the region of Plovdiv, South Bulgaria, a study was made on 10 cultivars of white head cabbage, conical and round in shape.
The following characters were investigated: winter resistance, resistance to premature bolting, length of vegetation period, earliness of cultivars and length of harvesting period.
Seeds for seedling production were sown on 12 September.
Most suitable for the ecological and geographic conditions of Bulgaria proved to the new proposed cultivars.
Most suitable for the ecological and geographic conditions of Bulgaria proved to be the newly proposed cultivars PM - 2 F1 and PM - 3 F1 (Sluis and Groot). They winter successfully without bolting versus 19% bolting in the control Derbentsko plants, which due to their organoleptic characteristics were up to the local consumer's requirements.
PM - 2 F1 and PM - 3 F1 are earlier, outyielding Derbentsko (2157 kg/dka) by 37 and 75%, respectively.
The heads of PM - 2 F1 and PM - 3 F1 are flat - round to round, dense, with an average weight of 912 and 1212 g, respectively.
Their organoleptic characters meet the local market requirements.
