Abstract:
Potato is one of the most important vegetable crops in the region of Eastern Serbia.
In recent years however, the cultivation of potato has become greatly endangered by massive appearance of and great damages caused by the Colorado potato beetle - Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say.
At the beginning of the 1990's we registered this pest's resistance to the insecticides most frequently used up until then: Carbaril, Carbosulphan and Cvinalphos.
During a tree-year period of field experiments on the basis of standard methodology, we researched the efficiency of 16 insecticides against Colorado potato beetle.
The result of the investigation showed that protecting the crop from the Colorado potato beetle has become more and more complex.
The number of efficient insecticides is relatively small and other agrotechnical measures are unsatisfactory, so that the solutions for further crop control are to be looked for in rational application of efficient insecticides or their combinations with bio-insecticides, i.e. insect growth regulators.
