Abstract:
As an alternative to the chemical plant protection against Leptinotarsa decemlineata, we propose one efficient extract from Urticae dioica L.
For the purpose this study, a number of laboratory experiments on antifeedant and toxic effects of these extracts on Colorado potato beetle larvae were carried out by using standard methods.
As for the results of our study, we established that antifeedant and insecticidal effects were manifested as a function from larvae age and solution concentrations.
After treatment, the young Colorado potato beetle larvae reacted with rapid and chaotic movements and tried to escape for the treated place.
The principal reason for this reaction is that the biologically active compounds of nettle have influence on the nervous system.
Two hours later, we established some more antifeedant effect, about the third rate.
Besides the above, the extract had direct toxic influence on the young Colorado potato beetle larvae, resulting in 78–85% mortality.
We can conclude that this water extract could be recommended as an efficient natural insecticide against Colorado potato beetle larvae.
