Abstract:
Eight hundred and forty accessions of different geographic origin were introduced during 1982 – 1995. Most of them were from USA - Iowa, Russia - Saint Petersburg, Japan - Tsukuba.
Four hundred and eighty accessions were put in long term storage in the gene bank in Sadovo, the others left for short term storage for exchange and breeding.
Most of the salad cucumber cultivars in the collection are lightly warted (55.6%). The accessions from Japan and China are heavy with warts and have a ridged surface.
The cultivars Shimo shiazu, Aodai, Suyo, Da-Bai, Shanghai from Japan and China and Cubit and Market long received from Italy had the best quality after six day storage.
The accessions have a strong resistance to powdery mildew, mildew and bacteriosis.
