Abstract:
In a model experiment (under controlled conditions), a study was made of the effect of the following factors on the formation of biomass, total nitrogen and nitrates in spinach cv.
Matador, cultivated as a spring crop: soil, nitrogen source and nitrogen fertilizer rate.
Two soils with different physico-chemical properties, 5 nitrogen sources and 5 nitrogen fertilizer rates were tested.
The independent effect of these factors and that of their interaction were statistically established using multifactorial analysis of variance (ANOVA). The effect of the factors "soil", "fertilizer", "fertilization rate", as well as that of the interaction between the nitrogen source and the fertilization rate upon the biomass formation were demonstrated using F-criterion.
The rest of the interactions were not statistically significant.
Furthermore, the relation between the nitrogen applied and the spinach biomass was modeled by regression equations for the different soils and fertilizers.
