Abstract:
This research has as its focus the level of influence mechanical pollination and the use of insects can have on the development of reproductive organs and seed quality.
Percentage of pollination, the ratio between fertile and sterile flowers, seed mass and number, and total sprouting have been examined.
Data has been collected from two zones.
The experiment has been carried out in isolated units; in one the pollination has been performed with brush, and in the other with bees.
The control was pollinated in open field conditions.
The best results were obtained using bees (19.20% more of the fertile flowers were successfully pollinated in the cluster, 21.96% in the upper and 15.45% in the lower zone). This results in a 46.82% greater number of seeds out of which 39.07% in the upper and 56.04% in the lower zone.
Absolute seed mass when pollinated with bees is on average 10.57% higher than is the case with mechanical pollination, with a significantly higher difference in the lower zone (21.12%). Seed germination is on average 3.67% greater (4.31% in the lower zone).
