Abstract:
Pineapple (Ananas comosus Mess.) regeneration from in vitro leaf culture was achieved in 2 steps.
The first step involved the formation of callus.
Callus was observed on 23–30 % of explants.
Its frequency depended upon plant age and which part of the leaf was cultured.
At the second stage, callus formed plantlets at a frequency of 50–100%. Crumbly-globular callus with nodules produced more plantlets than firm-compact callus on MS media supplemented with 2iP, Kin, NAA and IBA. The best regeneration and callus formation were observed on leaf explants taken from in vitro plants 8–9 weeks old.
