HEAT RADIATION FROM A GLASSHOUSE CROP CANOPY AT NIGHT

Author:   M.G. Amsen
Abstract:
The greenhouse effect should be expressed as an effect on the plant canopy temperature only. The net radiative heat flux reducing effect (A) can be expressed and explained by a simple equation. It is a function of optical (transmissive and reflection) properties or physical (dimension and heat conductivity) properties of the glasshouse structure, provided the glasshouse is closed. By calculated examples, it can be shown that optical properties are a much more dominant factor than physical properties (figure 1).
