Abstract:
Cultivar Tina was the first swede bred in New Zealand with resistance to both dry rot and clubroot.
However, races of dry rot which attack Tina have developed and spread.
Two races of dry rot that attack Tina have been isolated and are being used in glasshouse tests to select resistant plants.
A survey of gene bank material was carried out and three or four possible sources of resistance have been identified.
Inbreeding and selection has been carried out to produce true breeding lines.
Crosses have been made to breed new cultivars that are resistant to both dry rot and clubroot.
