ISHS Acta Horticulturae 459: International Symposium Brassica 97, Xth Crucifer Genetics Workshop

LESSER KNOWN OR FORGOTTEN CRUCIFEROUS VEGETABLES AND THEIR HISTORY

Author:   P. Hanelt
Keywords:   Neglected crops, Cruciferae, vegetables, dye plant, history of crops
Abstract:
There is a rather large number of neglected cruciferous crops, mainly used as vegetable, but also as oil, medicinal or dye plants. Some of them are completely abandoned, others lost significantly their importance generally or regionally, further ones had been always minor or very minor crops. These may be represented by species or infraspecific groups of different taxonomic level. Several taxa had been selected for a short discussion of their history; their potential for future use and breeding is emphasized.
