Abstract:
Two strawberry planting systems, normally used in the south-facing sloped fields in the Maresme area of Catalonia, Spain, were evaluated in a study conducted in tunnels installed in a strawberry nursery in the area. In order to schedule and monitor the fertigation of the commercial-size tunnels used in the experiment, drainage lysimeters equiped with tensiometers were used. Results on productivity and water use efficiency showed that "direct planting" system perfomed better than "runner planting" system. No differences in water application efficiency were found between planting systems. The crop coefficients (Kc) obtained were strongly related to cultivation practices.
