GENETIC VARIATION IN NORWAY SPRUCE AS REVEALED BY MAPPED PCR-BASED MARKERS

Abstract:
We have studied the genetic diversity on two Italian populations of Picea abies Karst., characterised by a different exposure to air pollutants, by means of Polymerase Chain Reaction-based molecular markers of known genetic linkage relationship. Allelic frequencies estimated at 24 mapped loci were used to estimate the average genetic diversity within population (Hep) and within species (Hes). Hep ranged from 0.262 to 0.448 and Hes from 0.301 to 0.466, while the estimate of GST was 0.049, consistent with other reported data in the same species. The results are discussed with regard to the environmental conditions of each population.
