INFLUENCE OF SHADING NET ON VEGETATIVE AND PRODUCTIVE CHARACTERISTICS, GAS EXCHANGE AND CHLOROPHYLL CONTENT OF THE LEAVES IN TWO BLACKBERRY (RUBUS ULMIFOLIUS SCHOTT.) CULTIVARS

Abstract:
A trial was carried out to evaluate the effect of shading net on the fruit ripening of blackberry, net photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance and chlorophyill content of the leaves. The study has compared plants of Black Satin and Smoothstem cultivars cultivated in full sunlight and under shading net, that reduced the light intensity by 40 %. The coverage with shading net has prolonged the harvesting period of Black Satin by 25 days and that of the Smoothstem by 28 days. The extension of ripening period has determined an increase of cumulated production by 9% for Black Satin and by 12 % for Smoothstem. The shading has not changed the fruit physical-chemical characteristics. The shading net has reduced the net assimilation and transpiration rate and increased the chlorophyll content of the leaves.
