Abstract:
Nodal stem cultures were initiated from apical buds of adult plants of Artemisia mutellina Vill.
A single plantlet was obtained when nodes were cultivated on basal MS medium.
The efficiency of such propagation method was rather low.
Higher multiplication rates could be obtained through nodal explant cultures on MS medium supplemented with 6- benzylaminopurine.
Subcultures of the induced shoot clusters took 30 days; after a cycle on MS basal medium, clusters could be transplanted on peat pot for rooting.
This second method is suitable for the rapid propagation of A. mutellina, allowing the potential production of more than 100.000 plants from a single two years old plant in a 250 days period.
The field performance of the micropropagated plants, compared to a seed-derived plant population, was positively evaluated.
