BIODIVERSITY OF THE ANCIENT TRENTINO GRAPEVINE GERMPLASM

Authors:   M. Grando, C. Frisinghelli
Keywords:   Vitis vinifera, microsatellite DNA, STR, RAPD
Abstract:
Genotype variation among 40 clones of Vitis vinifera considered to be indigenous wine cultivar in Trentino was evaluated using an objective and viable method based on polymorphic - PCR generated - DNA markers (STR and RAPD). A quite level of genetic diversity was found and about 70% of known alleles at four microsatellite loci resulted shared among this germplasm. Four STR alleles having the lower frequencies in the surveyed population were not detected in the group of ancient grapevine types still grown in our region. RAPD and STR patterns both revealed identical genotypes for 7 pairs of accessions which could be the same variety or varietal clones, whereas 21 varieties were uniquelly characterized.
