THE INFLUENCE OF TRANSPLANTS QUALITY ON THE YIELD OF TOMATO GROWN IN PLASTIC HOUSE

Abstract:
In a three-year study, we were seeking effects of tomato transplants grown on different substrates, on the yield of tomatoes. The transplants were grown in the containers using 15 variants of the nutritional substrates. The experiments were conducted in the plastic houses without additional heating on a smonitza type of soil. The Mi-10 (indeterminate type) and Balkan (semi-determinate type) hybrids were subjected to experimentation with the same growing system used for both hybrids. Results however showed significant differences with respect to the effects of the substrates on the quality, morphological traits of the transplants as well as on the tomato production itself. The best yields of either hybrid were attained through the transplants, produced on the standard compost using of up to 20% zeoplant. The use of these transplants enabled the Balkan hybrid to achieve the highest early yield, whereas the total highest yield of 135,9 t/ha was achieved by Mi-10 hybrid with the transplants produced on the same substrate. The lowest yield of tomato in both hybrids was noticed with the transplants of poorer quality, which were grown on the lignite dust substrates.
