ISHS Acta Horticulturae 456: II Modelling Plant Growth, Environmental Control and Farm Management in Protected Cultivation

PEST AND DISEASE MODELLING AND ITS ROLE IN INTEGRATED FARM MANAGEMENT

Authors:   J.L. Shipp, H.J.W. van Roermund
Keywords:   Pest and disease modelling, Integrated systems approach
Abstract:
Modelling provides an useful means for investigating and predicting pest and disease relationships. Modelling is used more extensively in pest management compared to disease management to simulate aspects of the biology, ecology and control of greenhouse pests. With diseases, most models are descriptive and measure the correlation between the incidence of a disease and associated variables. Pest and disease management are part of the larger integrated crop and greenhouse management system and, as such, need to be combined into a more integrated multi-disciplinary approach which combines conventional modelling with decision-support systems.
