ISHS Acta Horticulturae 454: III International Symposium on New Floricultural Crops

PROTOCOLS FOR EVALUATING NEW CROPS: THE NEW CROP PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA

Author:   Allan M. Armitage
Keywords:   amenity, cut flowers, landscape, perennials, pot plants
Abstract:
The New Crop Program at the University of Georgia has been in existence for approximately ten years. Crops are studied with potential for indoor flowering pot plants, potted flowering perennial plants, landscape (amenity) plants or new cut flower crops. The program began as a means of increasing the taxa used for indoor pot plants, however, more emphasis has recently been placed on the other three areas. Protocols for selecting and eliminating crops from a new crop program are discussed. Achievements of the program and references to crops researched in the last 10 years are provided.
