Authors:   L. Vasconcelos, A. Cardoso
Keywords:   Psidium guajava, propagation, budding
Abstract:
The objective of this work was to evaluate ten guava cultivars as rootstocks, during nursery stage, in Universidade Federal de Viçosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The evaluated characteristics were plant height, stem diameter, leaf area, dry weight of leaf, stem, root and total, and budding success at 60 days after grafting. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with ten treatments, four replications and 16 plants per plot. The following cultivars were used as treatments: Ouro, Campo, IAC-4, Brune Vermelha, Riverside Vermelha, São José Performe, Industrial Montes Claros, Pirassununga Vermelha, Pirassununga Branca e Bonanza Branca. For the conditions under which the experiment was carried out, 'Riverside Vermelha' showed better combination of averages for the growth characteristics evaluated, giving early, vigorous and high growth rate seedlings, followed by 'Pirassununga Vermelha'. 'Campos' showed the worst performance of all cultivars studied.
