Abstract:
The effects of salinity on growth, chemical composition and hydrodynamic parameters of two almond cultivars and the peach rootstock GF-677 were studied.
The experimental plants were irrigated with 3 modified Hoagland nutrient solutions containing in addition 0, 30 and 60 mM/L NaCl.
The growth response to salinity was different among genotypes.
In Truoito salt contributes to faster growth while in GF-677 growth was reduced by salinity.
Leaves had the greatest K concentration in comparison to other organs in all genotypes.
In GF-677, Cl accumulated to high levels in all organs, while in almond Cl accumulated mostly in roots of both cultivars.
Also almonds accumulated less Na than GF-677. This rootstock proved to be less tolerant to NaCl because of higher uptake and on transport of Na or Cl to tops.
From the tested genotypes GF-677 had the higher and the lower stomatal resistance (gs) values.
The cv.
Truoito has the ability to maintain their stomata open under salt stress.
Osmotic adjustment in Truoito is 0.4 MPa, while in GF-677 osmotic adjustment is 1 MPa.
GF-677 had a low gs and accumulated 3–4 times more Na and Cl in the leaves, contributing to its greater osmotic adjustment.
