Abstract:
A single input-single output linear functional model along with a field trial procedure is used to predict furrow irrigation runoff.
The linear kernel is approximated by using expansions in unit weighted orthonormal polynomials.
The memory length of the system and the order of polynomial expansion of the linear kernel are determined by trial and error procedure.
The inflow time in furrow provided a short cut to the problem of the memory length determination.
After identifying a suitable linear kernel, from a concurrent sequence of furrow inflow and runoff field data, a single input-single output linear functional model is applied to predict furrow irrigation runoff using a sequence of inflow values.
The results are satisfactory and lead to the right decisions for designing a reuse and a surface drainage system.
