ASSESSMENT OF WATER NEEDS FOR IRRIGATION IN GREECE |

| Abstract:
The Penman-Monteith method with climate data from meteorological stations in Greece are used to determine the reference evapotranspiration. Precipitation data and the USDA Soil Conservation Service Method are used to determine the effective rainfall. The crop evapotranspiration is evaluated as the product of the reference evapotranspiration and crop coefficient. The irrigation requirements are determined as the difference between the crop evapotranspiration and the effective rainfall. Based on meteorological data from two stations and statistical data on irrigated areas in each of 14 water regions, it was found that the total irrigation requirements for Greece for the year 1991 were ranged from 3073 to 4069 Mm3/yr. The min and max values were depended on the meteorological station used. | |
