ISHS Acta Horticulturae 449: II International Symposium on Irrigation of Horticultural Crops

EFFECT OF DRIP LINES NUMBER ON THE WATER USE, WETTED SOIL VOLUME AND YIELD OF AVOCADOS

Authors:   N. Michelakis, G. Klapaki, E. Vouyoukalou, E. Barbopulu
Keywords:   Crop coefficient, irrigation efficiency, evaporation, coefficient of variation
Abstract:
The effect of one, two and three drip lines irrigation on the water use, wetted soil volume and yield was investigated on 13 years old, avocado trees planted 7x7 m in the area of Chania, Crete. The amount of irrigation water used per year, was closely depended on the number of drip lines per row of trees. The percentage of the soil profile with Soil Water Potential (psis) higher than - 0,1 MPa, was about 33%, 48% and 67% at the beginning of the season (June 15) for the one, two and three drip lines treatments respectively and was lowered progressively to about 5%, 30% and 45% at the end of the season (September 30) for the same treatments.
