ISHS Acta Horticulturae 448: III International Symposium on Mineral Nutrition of Deciduous Fruit Trees

INFLUENCE OF FOLIAR APPLICATIONS OF Mn DURING SUMMER ON THE FRUIT QUALITY OF JONAGOLD

Authors:   T. Deckers, E. Daemen, K. Lemmens, C. Missotten
Keywords:   Foliar nutrition, fruit quality, Mn nutrition
Abstract:
Under standard cultural practices, Mn nutrition of the fruit trees is mostly fullfilled as Mn containing fungicides are applied in the postfloral period. More recently in the IPM production systems the use of dithiocarbamate fungicides is limited because of their negative effect on the populations of the Thyphlodromus pyri predatory mite. Special formulations of Mn foliar nutrition were developed as Aseptaman, Mantrac 500, MZE63. Foliar applications of Mn during summer period have a positive effect on the green background colour of bicoloured cultivars as Jonagold. The influence of these Mn treatments on the mineral composition of leaves and fruits and on the storage behaviour of the fruits is discussed.
