APPLICATION OF SOLUBLE IRON SULPHATE IN FERTIGATION

Authors:   M. Gimenez-Montesinos, J.M. Fernandez, S. Pérez Mohedano
Abstract:
The agricultural surface with drip irrigation is becoming more important each year. This means savings in water and fertilizers. The need for iron in calcareous soils could be solved by incorporating iron sulphate in the water of the drip irrigation. This method of iron supply was experimented during the last two years in different irrigation systems, and its effects in melon and artichoke have been evaluated. The processes consisted on: the selection of crops, the study of the injection systems in the drip installations, the analysis of the irrigation water, the control of processes in the field and finally the behaviour of the crop. The supply of iron sulphate and nitric acid at the same time, in specific proportion, gave satisfactory results for the drip installations (no problems in dropper were found) and also for the crop.
