ISHS Acta Horticulturae 448: III International Symposium on Mineral Nutrition of Deciduous Fruit Trees

EFFECT OF CHLOROSIS LEVEL ON THE NUTRIENT CONCENTRATION IN FLOWERS AND LEAVES OF PEACH ALONG THE SEASON

Authors:   R. Belkhodja, M. Sanz, A. Abadía, J. Abadía
Abstract:
We have studied the mineral composition of the flowers and leaves of peach (Prunus persica L.) as affected by iron chlorosis. Fifty peach trees growing in an orchard in the Gallego river in northeastern Spain were used in the study. Samples were separated in five different groups according with its chlorophyll concentration at 120 days after full bloom. The concentrations of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu, Mn and Zn were measured in flowers and in leaves 60 and 120 days after full bloom, K, Ca and Fe were the elements whose concentrations showed the largest changes with chlorosis. The changes were more evident at the flower stage and in leaves taken 120 days after full bloom than in leaves taken 60 days after full bloom. The K/Ca ratio also changes with chlorosis.
