Abstract:
Techniques allowing the diagnosis of deficiencies and excesses of mineral nutrient supply to fruit crops have been researched for many years.
Enhanced concerns about the environmental impact of all horticultural production practices have complicated the diagnosis of excess, while the need for increased quality have made the avoidance of deficiencies more important.
Improved understanding of the availability of key nutrients in the soil, of the ability of the fruit plant to remove these nutrients from the soil, of the re-translocation of nutrients in the plant and of the genetic control of critical processes will aid the identification and maintenance of nutrient supply.
