Abstract:
Spraying trees with calcium compounds significantly decreased internal ethylene, reduced starch degradation and usually increased flesh firmness.
All kinds of calcium sprays resulted in an increase of fruit calcium content; the most effective was Wuxal Calcium.
As a result of this, fruit K:Ca ratio decreased and incidence of bitter pit and of internal break-down were significantly reduced.
Calcium chloride spray applications, especially in early season, may damage foliage and fruitlets.
Three sprays of Wuxal Calcium at an early stage + three sprays of calcium chloride at later dates were as effective as six sprays of Wuxal Calcium and did not cause any leaf or fruit injury.
