ISHS Acta Horticulturae 447: III International Symposium on In Vitro Culture and Horticultural  Breeding

GENETIC VARIATION OF ROSE CULTIVARS FOR DIRECT SHOOT ORGANOGENESIS.

Authors:   L. A.M. Dubois, D.P. de Vries, A. Koot
Abstract:
At CPRO-DLO a successful protocol for direct shoot regeneration from in vivo rose leaf explants has been developed. The present study deals with the genetic variation for direct regeneration of 24 rose cultivars. Significant genotypic variation for the percentage of regeneration (65–100%) was demonstrated. Correlations between parameters of regeneration indicate that as cultivars regenerate better, adventitious shoots emerge sooner, are more frequent and longer after 25 days. The results are considered an essential step towards an efficient regeneration-transformation protocol for the rose.
