THE CHARACTERISTICS OF BLUEBERRY HYBRID 1/91 (VACCINIUM CORYMBOSUM L.)

Authors:   M. Stanisavljevic, R. Cerovic
Keywords:   (Highbush blueberry), hybrid, cultivars, phenological and pomological properties, cropping
Abstract:
A Five year (1991–1996) comparative study was conducted on some important phenological and pomological properties plus bearing potential and cropping of highbush blueberry hybrid 1/91 and three standard cultivars (Berkeley, Bluecrop, and Blueray). Phenological investigation included monitoring flowering and ripening time. Bearing potential was determined according to the number of buds per twig and the number of flowers per bud. The results of cropping were given per bush and per hectare. Berry size was expressed as mass and dimensions. The following chemical properties were studied: dry matter, soluble solids, total acids and pH value in berries. On the basis of the results obtained in this study, it may be inferred that the flowering of hybrid 1/91 occurred almost at the same time as in three standard cultivars, whereas it ripened at the same time as cv Berkeley. The hybrid 1/91 also showed high bearing potential and cropping, the largest berries, the highest soluble solids, and the greatest pH value in the berry.
