Abstract:
Phytoptus avellanae mite, which causes big bud development in hazelnut, is a widespread pest in Serbia.

Over the 1987–1991 period the study was conducted on population dynamics and harmfulness of Phytoptus avellanae on hazelnut cultivars. The effect of acaricides and insecticides in the control of this pest was also tested. All the above - mentioned parameters were observed on the folowing cultivars: Tonda Gentille Delle Langhe, Ludolf, Tankoljuskasti and Hall's Giant.

The best results obtained in the control of Phytoptus avellanae, were shown by cyhexatin, endosulphan, clofentezine and propargit (applied during mite migration). There were differences observed in susceptibility of hazelnut cultivars. The greatest degree of damage caused by the mite, was recorded in cv. Ludolf while cv. Hall's Giant proved to be infested at the smallest degree.
