Abstract:
Negret' hazelnuts from 14 Catalan producting areas were exhaustively analyzed for 1989–95 period.
Results show that, when 'Negret' trees are grown with good cultural management and under good edafoclimatical conditions, they produce high nut quality, similar to other cultivars commercialized in the international trade.
In other conditions 'Negret' cultivar produces lower nut quality and yields.
Current research carried out by IRTA on 'Negret' clonal selection, rootstocks and cultural practices and postharvest improvement, will give new perspectives to this variety, which is the most important in Spain.
