Abstract:
In Yugoslavia Turkish filbert (Corylus colurna L.) grows in relict phytocenoses of the Gerdap region and in oak - beech forests of Serbia and Montenegro mountains.
It is included in a number of forest association with different structures.
It is often planted in our parks and tree alleys.
In Yugoslavia research on this species started more than half a century ago.
As a rootstock for Corylus avellana varieties, Turkish filbert is used since 1972. (Korac et al.). Germplasm conservation and evaluation of its genetic diversity has started in 1983.
The main target of the research was to select genotypes with higher yield and good seed germination, which produce high quality rootstocks compatible with well-known hazel cultivars.
The characteristics of these genotypes are presented in this paper.
